cChâteau de Montmartin is situated in de natural regional parc the Morvan, the green heart of Burgundy. It's an area with rolling hills, where the air is still pure, the nature untouched and the life simple. The area is dotted with small, unspoiled, mediaeval villages. Many artists, looking for a "slow life" have settled down here. There's a strong folk music tradition and a vast choice of excellent places to taste the Burgundy wines, to visit museums, cathedrals and castles, landmarks of the Burgundy's glorious past. At the Mont Beuvray, the highest peak of the Morvan (910 m), you'll find Bibracte, a very interesting archaeology centre that has been founded by Mitterrand, former president of France. This is the very spot where Vercingetorix, the famous leader of the Celts, surrendered to Julius Caesar in 52 B.C. after having fought a heroic battle.

The nomination "Parc Régional Naturel" is a quality label assigned by the government to special ecological regions. Here, in the Morvan you'll experience this unique unspoiled nature. Just come and enjoy the dark nights, with the star filled skies so near that you seem to be able to touch it. Hear the whispering of the wind in the tall trees, the small creeks running through the forests and meadows surrounded by blackberry and woodbine hedges. The flora and fauna are of a unique richness. You can hike for hours without meeting a single person. The big lakes provide excellent swimming, boating and fishing water and for amateurs of more adventurous outdoor sports there's tree climbing, wild water canoeing, mountain climbing. And of course you can do horseback riding or play golf...
